Summer Golf Camp

Golf Boot Campers: I hope everyone is enjoying a nice 4th of July holiday week. The weather seems to be smokin’ hot pretty much everywhere on the map, except that is, over here where I am still enjoying a nice marine layer on the Oregon Coast keeping the greens soft and the afternoon burn-off a glorious thing to look forward to.

Here are your weekly activities - Try to work these into your normal routine and let me know how it goes. Be sure to wear your sunscreen and stay hydrated.

Week One:

Game Strategy:

  • Play a practice round of match play with a friend. When you play, try to use all the match play lingo to get comfortable with the format for if and when you ever need it. You can refresh your match play jargon HERE:

Practice Drill:

  • Get your bump and runs rolling. The bump and run is a great go-to shot during summer months for tight lies, windy days, and match play pressure situations. Take your irons and head to a short game practice area. Place yourself at 30/40/50 yards away from a target with a flat run-up area. Practice using your short irons (9,8,7 irons) at each respective distance until you’ve dialed in a distance for each. For this low-running shot, place the ball in the back of your stance, keep your weight on your forward foot, and using very little wrist hinge take a swing from about 9-o-clock to 3-o-clock - trust it and always accelerate through the ball.

Conditioning

  • To build up your golf stamina, take a 1+ hour walk this week and make sure to include some elevation changes along your route.

Stretching

  • Start adding a few hip opening stretches to your morning routine and keep them up over the next few weeks. Click here for two easy-to-follow and easy-to-do hip stretches. Happy hips, happy golf swing

Mental Game

  • Doubt your doubts. Play a round of golf and before every single shot - say to yourself, “I’ve got this”. A little forced confidence eventually turns into real confidence and confidence on the course is a game changer.
